SLEEPING MOUNTAINS Series Volcanic Landscape / sculptural formation

Unique pieces

"During my journeys, I have always been moved and fascinated by these mountains that make us believe that every hill is in reality a sleeping animal ... It is both a reassuring and calming feeling that binds us to nature and the Earth, but that at nightfall or in bad weather can turn out to be more threatening, because these animals 'asleep' could wake up..."

Beatrix Li-Chin Loos

With SLEEPING MOUNTAINS, a series of sculptural formations (table, stool, stand), Beatrix Li-Chin Loos pushes away the border between design and art. The functionality becomes secondary, even subordinate. It's the form that takes over. She thus shapes a landscape, like a sculpture and full of poetry.

Matter is at the very heart of her work. Composed of different layers stacked, like geological strata, this first formation "Volcanic Landscape" plays with contrasts and materials. Elm, medium, chipboard and leather coexist. Beatrix Li-Chin Loos creates surfaces that intrigue and mislead: the lacquered chipboard becomes volcanic rock, the lacquered medium takes on the appearance of ceramics, of earth crust.

Made exclusively from scraps, each hill is born from the work of the hand.
